The Australian Government is making a substantial investment of $140.3 million in community organisations through the Information, Linkages and Capacity Building (ILC) program. This initiative is aimed at delivering critical projects in the community that will benefit Australians with disability, their carers, and families.
The investment is divided into two main components:
- $90 million for the recently finalised Individual Capacity Building competitive grant round.
- $50.3 million to provide up to 12-month extensions for existing grants in various streams of the ILC program.
Individual Capacity Building Grant Round
The latest Individual Capacity Building grant round will allocate $90 million over three years to 45 diverse organisations. These organisations are tasked with delivering 48 grant activities.
Existing Grant Extensions
The second portion of the ILC funding, amounting to $50.3 million, will be used to extend the duration of around 130 organisations’ grants by up to one year. This is aimed at supporting people with disability, their families, and carers to overcome barriers to community participation.
Future Plans
Minister Shorten and Minister for Social Services, Amanda Rishworth, have both emphasised the importance of these grants and the role they play in the community. They are also considering a renewed approach to disability supports for people with disability outside the NDIS.
The current rounds of grant funding have been decided by the independent delegate at the Department of Social Services, separate from the Government.
