The Albanese Labor Government recently announced a significant boost for community participation opportunities for people with disabilities, their families, and carers.
Here are the key details:
Funding Allocation
A total of 60 organisations will share in the $50 million grant. These eligible businesses will receive grants ranging from $200,000 to $2 million.
Inclusion Matters
Minister for the NDIS, Bill Shorten, emphasised the importance of fostering participation in arts, culture, sports, and recreation for people with disabilities. The goal is to create more inclusive and accessible Australian communities.
Collaboration and Support
The government aims to work closely with these organisations to strengthen community bonds and enhance the lives of individuals with disabilities. Targeted and responsive support will be provided.
Breaking Barriers
The initiative focuses on removing barriers to participation. Every person with a disability, along with their families and carers, deserves the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential.
Implementation Timeline
Initiatives funded by this grant will roll out from May 2024 to June 2026 as part of the Information, Linkages, and Capacity Building (ILC) program. The ILC program aims to improve connections between people with disabilities and their local communities, even beyond those accessing the NDIS.
Australia’s Goal
Minister for Social Services, Amanda Rishworth, highlighted that enhancing life outcomes for all people with disabilities and strengthening supports beyond the NDIS aligns with Australia’s Disability Strategy 2021-2031.
This investment reflects the government’s commitment to creating a more inclusive and supportive environment, where everyone has access to high-quality services and opportunities for personal growth and connection.
